Confirmation is a sacrament in which the Holy Spirit is given to those already baptized in order to make them strong and perfect Christians and soldiers of Jesus Christ. Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation." The sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. Through the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ.
Like Baptism, which it completes, Confirmation is given only once, for it too imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual mark, the "character," which is the sign that Jesus Christ has marked a Christian with the seal of his Spirit by clothing him with power from on high so that he may be his witness.
Confirmation Preparation
Young adults continue their faith formation and education in preparation for Confirmation by taking Religious Education classes. Classes are held at the education building on Sundays from 11:15 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. The purpose of the Religious Education program is to help participants grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. (We also have the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program for adults wishing to enter the Catholic Church.)
